Yep, thankful for being shaken!

At first blush, this may not seem like a ‘thankful’ post, but it truly is.

Last week we experienced that ‘typical’ military life moment.  My hubby got the call that we were indeed being relocated to the other side of the USA… Alaska.

It was a huge shock to us, we are currently only 2 years into a full 4 year assignment in the DC area.  We have set down roots (something we have never done before), we got very involved in our church, I started a homeschool coop, and we invested in relationships.  But settling in here was not in God’s plan, He has something different for us in another place, and we were getting entrenched here.

God was preparing us for this news on Monday when our bible lesson was in Exodus.  When Joseph had brought the promised people into Goshen, it was to save their lives during the famine.  However, a few hundred years later, these chosen people had no intention of moving on.  They had put down roots, gotten involved in the local polygamy of Egypt, and had invested in relationships…. they were entrenched 🙂  They didn’t want to leave Egypt for the promised land!!!  God had to shake things up and make their lives in Egypt miserable to get them ready to move where they were intended to be.  Wow.

Thank you, Lord, for knowing what is best, for seeing the big picture, and for helping me move past my sorrow.  Thank you for answering my prayers, for holding me when I cry, for giving me such excitement over our move, and for allowing me to do what I love doing….HOUSE HUNTING!!  Father, thank you for walking with me, for guiding us, and for providing so generously my entire life.  I am ready for my new adventure Lord, bring it on 🙂

  1. I know that feeling of having to give up what you thought was a good plan! We experienced that this week as well–also Army related!Alaska though–that should be quite the experience! I’m looking forward to hearing all about your new adventures! 🙂

  2. Oh Kay!! It’s been too long since I’ve blogged or been on anyones blog, but am so glad that i hopped on today and saw this post! wow! Big changes ahead. As a fellow Army wife, I can completely relate. It’s such a relief to know that God is in control, isn’t it? His plan is perfect even if its sometimes unsettling. 🙂 Hope all goes well as you prep and prepare for another PCS!

  3. Wow! Alaska! How wonderful and exciting! 🙂 And, the most inspirational is how you find gratitude even when you may be frightened or not know what the future will bring. What trust you have in the Lord! Awesome! This Army wife will keep you in her prayers!!! (and I can’t wait to hear all about your new adventures!) Many blessings, Lisa

Alaska is a place we have always wanted to visit. i’m sure it will be full of new adventures and big journeys for your family! we live near an air force base and have friends coming and going quite often. My neighbor moves to White Sands in NM in 2 weeks 😦 So thankful that God prepared your heart for this next step!

  6. Oh, Kay, wow, you are handling this with such a positive attitude! Alaska is supposed to be beautiful…the last frontier. I can’t wait to see pictures and see how this shapes and forms your family life 🙂 Thank you for reminding me that sometimes blessings come in different forms…something that may seem stressful can be a blessing if we look at it the right way!

    1. I didn’t always handle it this way, but God has taught me this over many years 🙂 Once I felt just like Jacob after wrestling with God. I gained perspective that stuck with me 😉
