Weekly Wrap: The Quiet One

Life

It’s pretty quiet in our house this week. Both the middle boys are at swiss camp and will be returning home Friday. I can’t wait to go get them! My 10-year-old has been talking about camp since he went last year. I do believe he was more excited than his brother for the upcoming experiences! I do have to give a huge shout out to the folks at chapel who were willing to hang on to the kids so we could take advantage of a last second deal in Garmisch last weekend. It’s such a beautiful place!!

We finally made it to Neuschcwanstein Castle. We parked down in the town and began the hike up to the castle and beyond. There is a lovely bridge up above the castle where everyone takes pictures (Marienbrücke)). This lovely, much raved about bridge was closed when we made it up there. We tried in vain to get some great shots of the castle, but it’s summer time, German schools are on summer break, there was just no hope! We also stopped at Dachau Concentration Camp, but that visit and all those photos need their own post. I am hoping to get that done soon!

lighthouse badgeThat lovely hike did win me my Lighthouse Badge with my Fitbit! Climbing up to the castle logged 65 floors. And trust me, I felt every blessed one of them!! Side note: I am loving my Fitbit!! I can’t believe I waited so long to get one of these bad boys!! Both of my sisters have one as well, so I enjoy that friendly competition. I was beating them soundly on a daily basis (but that probably had a lot to do with my sister’s Fitbit dying on her 😉 )

Homeschool

I love seeing my FB and blog feeds full of my fellow homeschool moms and their first weeks of HS! But I have to remind myself to breath deeply and accept that we are not starting yet. I generally like to kick off our year in early August so that we have more wiggle room throughout the year, and this year we are anticipating a move which means I really should have started early. But you know what, life happens. Or at least, our wacky life is in a holding pattern while we wait for Uncle Sam to decide what life will look like. So while we were waiting, we chose to not order books depending on where those books would ship too. We are still in Germany and so those books were finally ordered. Our crazy summer of traveling has also not helped me with my school planning and execution. So I am trusting that God will make this year beneficial in His way, and I will accept the days as they come. Regardless of how I ‘feel’ about not knowing and not having a set schedule, I choose to rest in His capable hands.

Natural feeling are…holy when God’s hand is on the rein. they all go bad when they set up on their own and make themselves into false gods. ~C. S. Lewis

I round this pin earlier this week and buddy, I can’t wait to get going on it!! First, I need a house, then I need to unpack my stuff, find my tools, buy the lumber, check the plans, measure the wood, and THEN I get to build this. Woot, woot, just can’t wait!!

It would be a great addition to your school room this year! The book was written by a former school teacher turned homeschool mom, and a good friend of mine!

  1. Great post! The picture with your son’s green, plant hair is so funny! We are starting school later this year, too. I, like you, am having to make a concentrated effort not to worry about it.

    1. It’s such a challenge, especially when you are seeing all these great posts and pictures from the first day of school 😉 But our collective ‘first day’ will come at just the right time, eh?

  2. We too are starting rather late this year; I’m hoping to get the boys back to school by the end of Sept. & in the meantime we’re falling back on unschooling. Don’t underestimate all that your kids are learning while travelling. It’s such a wonderful opportunity to live history and geography. The pictures are beautiful!

  3. Hi! I’m visiting from the weekly wrap-up. I just loved seeing your pictures of the castle. We would like to take some time to see it one day 🙂

  4. I love the hidden bed! And our schedule this year started later than we usually did. I love the ability to slide it any way we want. Visiting from Weekly Wrap Up!

  5. Great Pics! Can’t wait to travel vicariously through all the travel pics…soon. I agree that one of the best was Josiah’s moss head. mom
