Historically speaking, tonight is a preparation or the anticipation of a major historic event for the Christian world. It is not about decor around the house, or the tree being lit, or even the gifts under the tree. It is about the Messiah, who had been promised to God’s covenant people. A promise given back in Genesis 3 to redeem the fallen human race.
In the Reformed tradition, we view the entire Bible as telling one complete story about Christ. Christmas Eve is simply a part of the whole story of Redemption. The God-Son of eternity set His glory aside to become a human. That human had to be born in all the gory glory of birthing, born to live a life in perfect accordance to The Law, and was born to die for the sins of His people. I had two of my babies born in December. This gave me great perspective when the song Mary Did You Know came out. That child Mary cared for was the King of the universe. Simply amazing!
I chose to use a better visual for the Mary song, but I happen to really love the Pentatonix version of this song!!
I just wanted to pop by and thank you for your lovely words on my Christmas post and to wish you a very happy new year. I hope it is all you wish it to be and more!
