This past Sunday was the first official start of Advent: hope. For years now, we have been celebrating Advent as a family to help us focus on the reason for the Christmas season: the birth of Jesus Christ. He wanted to start a new tradition in our home and with our children so that they would know that Christ is the focal point of Christmas.
Our church is reading through Little Hearts Prepare Him Room, an Advent devotional from the PCA. The devotion has a reading and questions (as well as activities) for each night of Advent. Our kiddos are taking turns reading the Scriptures since we don’t have our Advent wreath with us. I highly recommend an Advent reader or a small Advent wreath for your own home. We also don’t simply light our Advent Wreath on Sundays. We light them every night during Advent because we have 5 children who want to participate in lighting the candles.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
that he may deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
For our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.
