It has been a challenging week here in our home. We are still trying to get our groove on with homeschool and I appear to be losing the battle with whatever allergens are here in the great state of SC. No snow and no freezing means nothing goes dormant. I live in fog 😉 It would be quite easy for me to wallow in self pity about being ‘sorta sick’ right now. It was also be quite easy for me to dwell on the struggles we are having in homeschool and with kids’ behaviors. That’s all part and parcel of being human. That’s all part of being ‘natural’.
But if you are a Child of the King, especially, you are no longer a ‘natural’ person. You have been transformed by the Holy Spirit and you are to keep your mind focused on heavenly things (Col 3:2). If we need help recognizing blessings, we ask God to help point them out for us.
Being thankful and counting our blessings doesn’t come naturally to us, so we must learn to be thankful. We must remind ourselves to focus on those things for which we are thankful. To learn to turn the microscope off us and turn it towards God, who gives generously to all without finding fault (James 1:5).
The generous blessings I am thankful for our:
~ the health of our family. Even though many of us are struggling with a decent ‘snogg’, we are not suffering serious illness and I am not praying diligently over my family for healing. I know mothers who are. I know families who are mourning loss after losing a loved one due to lost battles for health. God has blessed us generously with good health and I will thank Him for that!
~ for being here in South Carolina. It is a beautiful state with a rich history. I love having the opportunity to explore this place with my family. I just wish I had a bit more time to do it in 😉
~ for this coming weekend. We are traveling up to the DC area to visit our home church. We have been able to schedule meals with friends so that we get to see as many friends as we can. I am extremely excited about our trip and I am so thankful that they are just as excited to see us!! Friends of the heart are a true blessing from above!!
~ for the opportunity to homeschool. I am trying to craft a blog post about why we have really come to be grateful for homeschooling, but it’s not quite ready yet 😉 We may need to be farther from certain episodes before I can publish it.
~ for a job. For the time being, hubby has a job. We are thankful for the providing.
~ for warning shots. That may not make sense to you, but I am thankful for warnings that we are steering poorly. For the gentle reminders that we are, again, trying to steer our lives away from God’s plan. I am thankful for a Father who knows so much more than us and directs our path for our good.
There are many blessings in your life as well. Won’t you take a moment to focus on them and write them down? If you would like to share them, you can do so below. Here is the button for your own post:
