Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

give thanks

I would love to say that I set a goal this year to be more content. But the truth is that God convicted me in December about my struggle with being discontent among a myriad of blessings. So with a heart of humility, I begin this year with a Spirit led goal of being content. I will keep Micah 6:8 firmly in my sights as I move ahead to the year that God will give me.

[blockquote align=”center” cite=”Micah 6:8″]He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?[/blockquote]

Thursday is going to be my ‘intentionally thankful’ day. More than just a meme, it is my personal vendetta against the sinfulness that has taken root in my life. It will be the day that I remind myself to stop focusing on me, and turn my eyes towards God; to allow Him to remind me of why I can be thankful. Won’t you join me in finding contentment in your circumstance? Won’t you focus on the blessings in your life this year?

I am very thankful for:

~ the means we have to buy even a replacement ring. After 17 years, the diamond fell out of my wedding set. I spent the days weepy and each time I reached to ‘worry’ my wedding ring, I wept some more. My hubby bought a simple gold band while we pray over what to do about the wedding ring.

~ hubby. I was able to tell him how thankful I was that he didn’t try to make jokes about the diamond falling out or me sneakily trying to get a new ring. He understood my emotional attachment to my wedding set and acted quickly to fix the situation.

~ surprises. I am looking forward to what hubby chooses to replace my ring with and when I get it. That’s a whole blog post to itself 😉

~ bible study. We chose to attend one of the bigger churches here in SC, mostly because we knew that during these 6 months we weren’t really going to be very involved. Our temporary church has a Thursday morning women’s bible study as well as an accompanying activity time for the homeschool kids. I am VERY excited about this!!!

~ time with my folks! My parents considered changing their trip from January to May. But after a cold Iowa winter, they chose to play snow birds and fly south. We had no idea that dad was going to avoid such brutal temperatures as happened this week. He still works out in the elements at his nearly retired age, so we were all so thankful that he wasn’t out delivering mail in -40. I am so sorry for those who had to be out in it!!! But most thankful that my parents were here.

~ traveling mercies! My parents spent the first few hours of their southbound trip sitting in a ditch beside I-80. They hit some ice, spun around a few times, and blew into the ditch sideways. All things considered, God graciously brought them through it all with only a couple tires needing fixed…not even replaced. Thank you to all the angels in various forms who brought mom and dad through the experience!!!!

~ our rental house. I need to be thankful for it, I need to appreciate how nice it is, and I need to realize that a few frustrations don’t detract from the blessing that this home is.

~ for direction. I know this blog was floundering a bit, but I remembered to pray about it (another word for my new year). I know what I love to write about and that will be my focus this year. Thank you all for accompanying me on this journey. I pray we all find contentment this year by counting the many gracious blessings in our lives!!
