Thankful For Big Things

This week, I am thankful for the big things that make it easier to handle the little things.

Our future is unknown to us. That can be said for any military family at any time. But for us, we have been living with the unknown for a few months now. The wind may be blowing in a different direction for us, and we have no idea where it will lead or where we will go. And it can just get a bit old walking around on what feels like shifting sand.

Life in general is uncertain. I once heard a speaker say that every time he heard the siren wail on an emergency response vehicle he thought “some one’s plans just changed.” But life can be crazy uncertain when we are in the military.

So this week, I am thankful for the foundation I have in Christ:

  • that my future is not unknown to Him
  • that I have been granted peace about the future
  • that He is helping me to live in my today, and let tomorrow be for itself.
  • He reminds me to have faith
    • Β that faith is in the things unseen,Β
    • He does not lighten my path because it would weaken my faith
    • faith is strengthened through trials
    • that God gives all we need to survive the trials
    • that He walk along side us in the trials
  • that Christ has conquered this world Β
  • that He led me to some great pins this week that were created just for me (that’s my story, and I am sticking to it πŸ˜‰ )
  • that God has given me a husband who cares deeply for me and prays for me

Great is thy faithfulness, oh God my father. There is no shadow of turning with thee. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Great is thy faithfulness, oh Lord to thee.

Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him. The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. ~Lamentations 3:19-26

    1. Beautiful post! I just love the photo of the sign. Do you have that hanging in your home? My husband just retired from the Army. It was such a difficult decision for him, but the results of the election pretty much convinced him. 😦 Your faith is such an inspiration. The quote you have of “The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you” has always been a favorite. I am so glad I came to your blog this afternoon! Many blessings, friend! Lisa

      1. It has been quite a challenge being a in the military since then, hasn’t it? We understand. God be with you as you transition into civilian life πŸ™‚

    2. “So this week, I am thankful for the foundation I have in Christ: -that my future is not unknown to Him ” Wow! I need to file that one away! What a comfort that is to the military family:) I love that so much!!! We so often just are in unknown land with the big changes that will be occurring in our life. Next time the unsure hits I am clinging to that one! Thank you! And a beautiful list besides:)

      1. The military life can sure be challenging. The one consistency is change πŸ˜‰ I have leaned heavily on Him as we await possible orders or whatever comes next.

    3. Unknowns are hard on me! I know in my head that God’s got it all under control, but sometimes my heart just wants to know what’s happening next so I can prepare for it. :/Is that picture in your header of your house? That is absolutely gorgeous! Maybe the wind will blow you to TX and we’ll get to meet. πŸ™‚

I am just very thankful that He answered that prayer this week πŸ™‚ Several of my friends are up for orders this summer, so we are all encouraging each other and praying for each other….and house hunting/dreaming together, hahahahaha.Oh hey, I need to email.
